So, it appears there is minimal desire to really take on Apple in the smartwatch market. However, luxury watch companies have decided to go another route and offer "connected" watches instead. On Wednesday December 16 Breitling unveiled their new Exospace B55 at their flagship store on 57th Avenue in New York City.
Breitling competitor Tag Heuer is one of the first companies to unveil a smartwatch, but Breitling is the first to unveil an entirely Swiss-made connected watch. The Exospace B55 is a connected version of the brand's Caliber B55. The watch features an analog and digital display, and is at a price point of 8900 dollars.
Breitling integrates technology into their watches
Companies like Breitling and Tag Heuer are still holding on to the aesthetic of a traditional watch, but they are finding ways to integrate technology and make their time pieces modern. The oversized 46 milimeter piece is made from titanium and features a water resistant case. The royal blue strap for the watch is paired with blue hands.
The wearer has the option to sync the watch with their smartphones calendar. Other features of the watch include Bluetooth connectivity which allows for time tracking, seeing how far one jogs, checking e-mail, and texting. The watch also comes with an app to change your timezone which immediately updates on the timepiece. The battery life of the watch can range from one to two months.
Currently, Breitling's biggest competition is expected to come from Tag Heuer. Tag Heuer's 1500 dollar price tag for their smartwatch puts them at a much more accessible price point, but they are still in the luxury category nonetheless.
