If there is a lesson to learn from the recent Donald Trump scandal, making blatantly xenophobic statements is not a good look for you or any of the other parties involved. The entrepreneur's recent comments over Mexican immigrants has caused Univision to sever ties with him and no longer broadcast the Miss U.S.A. pageant, NBCUniversal has also dumped the Miss U.S.A. and Miss America pageants, and even the Republican party, which he claims to love so much, wants nothing to do with him.

The next up in Trump's casualties will be his fashion endeavors, specifically his partnership with Macy's Inc. who sell his clothing line. Over 700,000 people signed a moveon.org petition calling for Macy's to dump Donald Trump's brand, and while Macy's has yet to respond to the issues surrounding Donald Trump, associating with the incredibly problematic presidential candidate can't be good for their business.

Macy's sells Trump men's wear, suits, ties, as well as his fragrance, Success. They have also featured Trump in their advertising campaigns. Macy's, who is attempting to target Latinas, would do best to dissociate themselves from a man who certainly won't be getting the Latina vote in the Republican primaries.

Donald Trump immigration controversy causing problems for Macy's

Trump announced his bid for president last week, and part of his speech included referring to the United States as "dumping ground for Mexico's criminals and rapists." This prompted NBCUniversal to sever its ties with Donald Trump amidst pressure from the Hispanic/Latino community and a change.org petition that gathered over 200,000 signatures. NBC jointly owns the Miss USA and Miss America pageants, which they will no longer broadcast, but, they have not announced what they will be doing about Celebrity Apprentice.

However, Trump has said that he will not be hosting the latter mentioned reality show due to his presidential bid. Trump was not taking NBC's reaction lying down, however. He took to his Instagram to voice his disdain for NBC's decision, saying, "If NBC is so weak and so foolish to not understand the serious illegal immigration problem with the United States, coupled with the horrendous and unfair trade deals we are making with Mexico, then their contract violating closure of the Miss Universe/Miss USA will be determined in court."

Trump will have a next to impossible time finding any major companies to still support him after the firestorm he has ignited. A wrench has been thrown in both his fashion and entertainment endeavors. While he may somehow be able to retain his media presence, even if Macy's was to continue carrying his line sales would certainly suffer.

Macy's, which is a 28 billion dollar enterprise, certainly would not want to lose their mega department store status due to their association with a man who insulted a growing and increasing influential demographic in the United States. While they are most likely under contract to carry Trump's label for a certain period of time, there should without question be loopholes around it, and statements that can be interpreted as prejudice would easily be one of them. While a rep for Macy's was not available for immediate commentary, it certainly isn't looking good for the future of Trump's fashion label.
