Japanese high street giant Uniqlo has sold out of polo shirts, after star tennis player Kei Nishikori made the historic US Open final in
New York.Customers queued at Uniqlo's Ginza store in Tokyo before it opened for business, hoping to purchase the polo shirt used by Nishikori, whom Uniqlo sponsors.
Sales of the shirt began on August 25 and skyrocketed after Nishikori became the first Japanese male in 96 years to advance to the final of the US Open, to be contested on September 8.
Novak Djokovic, who Nishikori defeated to advance to the final, also has a contract with Uniqlo, making Nishikori the winner of what was described as a "Uniqlo showdown".
