Alexander McQueen, Burberry and Christopher Kane are among the labels that have been nominated for this year’s British Fashion Awards, but leading the charge is Stella McCartney with three nominations.Announced at an event held at

London’s Savoy Hotel, McCartney is competing with Kane and Mary Katrantzou for Designer of the Year to succeed Sarah Burton at Alexander McQueen. The fashion designer’s label is also in the running for Designer Brand against Alexander McQueen, Burberry and Mulberry; and for the Red Carpet Award alongside Alessandra Rich, Roksanda Ilincic, and Victoria Beckham.

The
British Fashion Council announced the nominees for the eleven different categories, ranging from the Emerging Talent Award for ready-to-wear, accessories and menswear to the Model of the year and the Isabella Blow Award for the Fashion Creator, which honours a British creative, stylist, make-up artist, photographer, art director or producer, and this year the award is between Edward Enninful, Katie Grand and Louise Wilson, a professor at London’s Central Saint Martins.

The Emerging Talent awards are some of the most anticipated prizes with J.W. Anderson, Michael van der Ham and Simone Rocha nominated in the Ready-to-Wear category, while Dominic Jones, Jordan Askill, and Sophie Hulme will battle in the Accessories category, and the Menswear prize will be between Agi & Sam, Jonathan Saunders, and Lou Dalton.

Katie Hillier, Nicholas Kirkwood, and Philip Treacy who will be showcasing his new collection during London Fashion Week are all nominated for the Accessory Designer accolade, while Kim Jones for Louis Vuitton, Oliver Spencer, and Richard James will compete in the Menswear Designer category.

There is a second nod for Jonathan Saunders in the New Establishment Award, an award that was created last year recognising new British brands “taking the industry by storm”, and he will compete against Erdem and Meadham Kirchhoff. Last year Christopher Kane took the honour.

This year, the British Fashion Awards will also celebrate two additional awards: the BFC Outstanding Achievement Award and this year’s British style icon, as voted for by the public. The initial nominee list is now online at www.britishfashionawards.co.uk/britishstyle including last year’s winner Alexa Chung, as well as Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Henry Holland, Tom Ford, Lara Stone and Victoria Beckham.

The winners will be announced at the awards ceremony, which takes place in London on November 27.
